If you know anyone in the fitness industry, or have a friend, family member, or connection on social media in any kind of wellness product business, you have no-doubt been pitched a number of fitness challenges. Fitness challenges can range from a 5- day juice fast to a 90-day “lifestyle transformation,” or something even longer, or in between.
Are fitness challenges really worth the effort? And, are the results achieved sustainable? These questions can really only be answered on a case-by-case basis. What I can say from experience– both doing fitness challenges for my own benefit, and coaching thousands of clients in various fitness programs and protocols in my practice– is that your mindset and how you approach it can make all the difference in what you get out of it.
Personally, I haven’t really done an official “challenge” or “program” for quite some time. But recently, I came across a hashtag that was hard to ignore: #75hard
So, I did some digging and decided to give it a try. According to the creator of 75 Hard, Andy Frisella, this isn’t a challenge but more of a “program.” He explains it here on his landing page, which gives you just enough information to make you curious, asks for your email address, and promises not to sell you anything. He also points out that it is more of a mental challenge, even though with the name and the rules, one might assume it is more of an exercise and diet challenge. Well, whatever he wants to call it, I love a good challenge or anything to expand my limits and explore what else my mind, body, and spirit are capable of achieving. So, I started the 75 Hard Challenge (or program, as it were) a few days ago. And, I’m loving it so far! But structured programs have pros and con’s and it’s always important to read the small print and give yourself credit for knowing what is best for your own body, no matter how convincing the person offering the program sounds. With that, I’m sharing my #75hard journey here and on my social media channels, to help you decide if this is something that might be awesome for you to do yourself!
